a wet Saturday

I have tried very hard to keep away from the computer today, and have managed extremely well, by spending the day in the kitchen.

first off, I roasted a couple of big squash that Pat Silver (WINOLJ) brought me on Wednesday. Actually, she brought me five assorted squash, so I have three more to play with.

while they were roasting, I sauteéd a cooking apple, a chopped onion, and about a tablespoon of chopped fresh ginger until they were soft. Then I scooped the flesh out of the roasted squash, put it and the apple mix through the liquidator, returned it to the pan, added some water and some vegetable bouillon and simmered for about 15 minutes. Served that with some potato scones done on the griddle pan. *Fab*.

next up, I made some chocolate and cream cheese brownies from How to Be a Domestic Goddess by Nigella Lawson. These also are fab. And going fast.

I have also browned 4 lbs of Dexter mince, cooked up a load of celery, carrot and onion (my starting point for almost any stew-type dish), chopped a load of ginger and garlic, and I'm now about to go and make the mince into a) the underneath of a cottage pie for tonight, and b) some sort of Indian-ish thing with cumin and coriander and asfetida and yogurt and tomatoes and stuff.

I may be some time. But it will be worth it.

I only came up here for a sit down, honest.

That sounds delicious. I'm cooking margarita chicken right now - results posted later.
