from BBC news - Up to 5 million people (28%) would demonstrate against ID cards the survey conducted by online research firm YouGov found.

lets hope *that* gets through to TPTB's thick skulls.

We carry enough ID as it is, especially with the new photo-style driving licences. I can prove who I am when I need to so any ID card could only benefit TPTB, so I don't want one.

Yeah, but aren't the majority still in favour of the things? Or at least not actively against them. Because don't forget - there are bad people out there - terrorists and the like - and identity cards will protect us from them!

Also, convert "would demonstrate", to "really would demonstrate", never mind the fact that this government doesn't actually have a good record for paying attention to public opinion, overwhelming or otherwise.
