perlmonger's car is fixed - hurrah. And not too bad - about £300. Thanks are due to the garage who took it in, sorted the bits, and sorted the car in such short order. Drove home in a simply beautiful sunset.

new bit for the Dyson arrived - that's quite impressive, given it came by post, and I only ordered it last Thursday. I have collected another cylinder full of cat hair from the living room rugs.

now must go and finish cleaning downstairs.
