went to collect the Moose at lunchtime; he now has a beautiful new back bumper, instead of the slightly crumpled one from when he tried to seduce an innocent Alfa 156. And into Autotrader he will go in the next couple of days.

while out, we popped into Marcruss, a hugely disreputable (and thus attractive :) store, specialising in army surplus gear, camping equipment, and outdoor clothing. Each sold on different floors, and you can't carry stuff from one floor to another - it must all be paid for at each floor. We discovered today that old man Marcruss - a canny chap, by all accounts - leases one floor to each of his three sons, so they all run as independent businesses.

why were we there? To buy some walking boots. We have walking boots, of course. Pete's are ancient, and slightly manky since he wore them when he was digging the fishpond. Mine were fairly new, bought specially for our trip to Oban and the Lake District in December 2002. They were great; I wore them, I walked. What more could one ask from walking boots?

they never left the Moose except to go on our feet, those boots. We took them North, we brought them home on 2 Jan 2003. And we put them somewhere.

can we find them? Of course not. But they will turn up in the next couple of days, you mark my words, as we have just spent £150 on two new pairs.
