The government is working with the private sector to determine how ID cards for a range of commercial transactions.

If adopted, the plan would create a central audit trail of every citizen's major transactions with both government and business.

I think I might start using cash again ...

And how, pray, will you get that cash? By going to the ATM. And if you start drawing large sums of money out, in order to accommodate your preference for not leaving an audit trail all over the place, what's the betting the bank will start wanting to know why you're taking out large sums of money on a regular basis, in case you're funding terrorists or committing frauds by using cash ... Abbey has lately cut back on the amount that can be extracted from an ATM on a daily basis, for some spurious security reason that escapes me. I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

But ATM fraud is on the rise and banks now recommend us going to them less often and drawing out more...
