in true keeping with the time of year (and possibly in sympathy with
brisingamen's washing machine),
perlmonger's car decided that it would like Christmas off. And so unceremoniously dumped all its hydraulic fluid while he was out and about in Bristol yesterday. The AA chap was a hero, by all accounts, and there's a faint chance it can be fixed before the weekend. We are a multi-car household, but the FTO is SORN'd, un-MOT'd and uninsured, the Moose is in darkest Wales waiting for some new turbo bits, so at the moment we are reliant on the MR2 - a lovely chap, but not tremendously good at carrying more than two people; this is slightly unfortunate, as we have to collect
kalunina from Cardiff airport tomorrow afternoon, and she will be here for a week.
we are getting an AA rental car for 24 hours from tomorrow (see what I mean about the AA man? I'm sure that's not quite how it's meant to work), and I guess if the bits for the Xantia don't arrive from Citroen, we'll have to extend that rental.
well, the Dyson (cylinder vacuum cleaner) main tube - which has been broken, although not terminally, for a while - ceased to function. I ordered the necessary bit from their web site, but at the weekend I had to vacuum upstairs on my hands and knees, using just the shortest bit of pipe. This was tedious.
as an aside, could someone explain how the cats can have such ridiculously luxuriant coats, when I hoovered an entire Dyson full of fur from the study on Sunday? They should be bald, given the amount of fluff I collected with my little purple hose.
weekend? um - six bottles of whisky for
perlmonger (yes, really), a pluth beanbag elephant / mammoth thing for me (truly irresistible), lots of stuff from health shop, huge steaks with chips for supper (veggie christmas looming, so had to get a meat fix :), big Sainsburys shop on Sunday, plus general house chores.
last night, we got the branches and lights up (apart from the kitchen lights) and it's starting to look quite festering. Today's jobs include steam cleaning the server room carpet, thorough vacuuming downstairs, washing the kitchen floor, taking some stuff to the tip (but not much - MR2, remember?), and going to dinner at Budokan before going to bop along with Jools Holland at Colsonall. Should be good.
