the budget
Mar. 16th, 2005 03:41 pmyes, it's that time of year again, when our dear Chancellor of the Exchequer gives with one hand, and takes away with the other side of his face ... In fine anticipation, and realising that Pete's car tax was due at the end of the month, we hurriedly gathered the documents together, and hurtled up to the village post office at 12.30 (it's half day, and it shuts at one).
we queue for what seems like ages, and then the woman behind the counter points out that we have brought the insurance certificate for the Disco, not the one for the Xantia [sigh].
we hurtle home again, I find the certificate (I am Official Keeper of Bits of Paper), and Pete, being younger than I, bounds like a young gazelle* back up the steps to the PO, and just makes it.
and wouldn't you know it? Dear Gordon didn't touch vehicle excise duty on that class of car ...
* well, not very like, actually
