I looked into ROTC scholarships to pay for university. Every time I went to a college fair or attended an interest session, my mom would holler "Don't sign anything!" after me.
Of course, I confused the navy by responding to the "Dear Elizabeth, are you interested in a career in nuclear engineering on Naval submarines?" Why yes, yes I was at the time. I called the 1-800 number and received a perplexed "But women aren't allowed on nuclear submarines" as an answer.
