a trip to Bath
Apr. 16th, 2004 11:30 amwe went to Bath yesterday, to see a company for a client (w00t! consultancy!). Now, it's only 17 miles to Bath from where we live (just SW of Bristol, in North Somerset), but it's 17 miles of hellish roads, and would probably take an hour to drive. And there wouldn't be anywhere to park when we got there.
so we decided to take the train. But you can't normally park at Bristol Temple Meads after 8 a.m. So - we got on a bus from the village, got out at the Hippodrome, and strolled through Bristol over to the station. It was a lovely day, and the walk through Queens Square and round St Mary Redcliffe was really enjoyable. The train fares were a remarkably reasonably £10 return for the pair of us, and we had time for a stroll round the city of Bath (and some shopping) on a beautiful spring day. Best way to do it.
perlmonger deviated from 20 odd years of clothes buying, and purchased a *baggy* linen shirt. I don't think I've ever seen him in such a thing, but it looked very good. It's to go with a casual linen jacket he also bought in Orvis, a shop we will be visiting again, I think.
and I didn't buy *anything* - I must be ill. Especially as there was a very nice brown leather bag in Orvis ... I may go back.
