As I understand it, bricks slowly degrade, leaving you wish mush on the bottom of the cistern and a jammed flush mechanism.

Depends on the brick - blue / damp-proof course ones should be ok.

Anyway.. this is a thick plastic bag with some holes in. You could DIY for rather less than £2.33 each.
