a close shave ...
May. 8th, 2007 10:23 pmwe now have the votes for the Long Ashton Entry - *25* votes separated seven candidates. Of which I was the seventh, and so didn't get elected.
I so nearly made it ...
[edit]
so far this evening, five Parish Councillors have told me how sorry they were. It's very frustrating!

This is the bit that's getting me; I am seriously thinking of avoiding the 'thank you' party on Saturday because I cannot bear people commiserating with me, or else dancing nervously around me and changing the subject, requiring me to make reassuring Churchillian speeches about carrying on, when mostly I want to bawl my eyes out, which would be embarrassing. It's around this point when I realise we have few other things to talk about.
One person wrote me a well-intentioned but overly fluffy letter of commiseration which I have had to deal with. The chair, on the other hand, just patted me on the shoulder and hugged me, and we are now engaged in getting on with the work. The more I see of him, the more I am impressed by his almost intuitive grasp of how to deal with me.
As to the rest, bit by bit ... bumped into one of my big supporters yesterday, who wanted me to stand for town in his ward and he was full of concern. However, with him was the person who did stand, and who won, namely our Gurkha councillor. You know, I'd rather see Dhan with a seat; it's rather more important.
