Tesco to monitor millions of consumers around the world

As [livejournal.com profile] perlmonger said, "they don't already?" .. well they do, but they are extending this to more than 60m worldwide customers. And they will continue to sell this data "in anonymous form" to the likes of Coca Cola and Unilver.

More from The Times here.

Well if it's anonymous, I don't really care.

I rather like the fact that my Clubcard helps Tesco record my purchases, because when I shop online it often jogs my memory to order something I've forgotten, of which it's saved details.

Yep, depressing, but this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/merseyside/7344045.stm) cheered me up no end.

isn't there some kind of clubcard exchange whereby people can periodically swap clubcards with each other to fuck with their data?

Oh, I do hope so :) I never go in there if it can possibly be avoided, and I won't have clubcards as a matter of principle, but that seems like a fine idea!
