From BBC news comes the following:
All petrol and diesel which is sold at UK pumps now has to include at least 2.5% biofuels.

These renewable fuels, made from crops such as sugar cane or maize, have been added to fuel sold around the country.
I read this almost straight after reading George Monbiot's piece in today's Guardian.

A world going mad ...

It was interesting that BBC Breakfast News this morning was also playing on the "2.5% biofuels" bit and pointing out that many people believe that the damage caused by the biofuels in many ways (including using Palm Oil from areas that were rainforest up until very recently) are more damaging to the environment.

Now there is an arguement that biofuels could be made from the stalks and other "waste" of food production, but that's not the way things are currently set up.

This does at least guarantee a market for biofuels regardless of cost, which will probably help.

Food-grade biomass is Too Damn Expensive to be a good source of biofuel for long. My own favoured source material would be kudzu...
