All fingers and paws are well and truly crossed up here in Scotland.
I'm so pleased he's improving, and willing it to last. He's going to be one pampered pussy when he gets home, isn't he?
I lost a Siamese once, for reasons unknown. Suki went missing for three days and when she came home she was vomiting violently and continuously. The vet found nothing explainable, there was no temperature or any other signs. We deduced poisoning (and suspected the gamekeeper next door - the same one that later shot my replacemnt moggy, his son having previously *creosoted* the poor thing). The vets did their stuff and returned her to me, weak and dehydrated, with every hope of a full recovery. I was giving her water hourly, via syringe. She seemed OK, she had started eating, then just upped and died in my arms. She just kind of ... stopped. I was so shocked. And I loathe gamekeepers to this day.
We still don't know why she died. No PM was offered, and I doubt I could have afforded it anyway. Bless them, the vets never charged me a penny because the cat had not been saved. Not very business-like, but they were a large animal practice in a rural area and pets tended to be a side line for them. It was also in another time and place, when people were much nicer than they are now. The PT era.
Gawd - I've read that back and it sounds like a real downer. I'm not meaning to be pessimistic - I'm sure Pteppic will recover just fine. It's just an attempt at empathy ... just to say I've had that "why is my cat so sick when there's no reason or justification for it?" feeling. And I didn't like it.

I hope Ptep has a long and comfortable life yet. Am I right in thinking FIV can be well managed now? Or is that some other thing I have in mind?
