yesterday evening, I appear to have become victim to Munchausen's Caffeine Withdrawal by Proxy, and felt really wierd and spaced out. I took myself off for a hot bath, complete with orange and ginger oil, and Morality for Beautiful Girls, no.3 in the fabulous Alexander McCall Smith series about Precious Ramotswe, the proprietor of the No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency - if you haven't read them, then do ... they're utterly wonderful.

suitably revived, we pottered down to the kitchen and constructed some comfort food, in the form of corned beef hash, which we ate while watching this week's Faking It; whyever did that silly Xian bint agree to do the programme, FFS? I don't know which character I disliked more, Laura Jane the prissy Christian, who equated having her hair cut with losing her virginity (and both are still intact), or Harry, the "look at me I'm a rock chick" rock chick. The only redeeming feature was the wonderful Nikki Lambourne from Never the Bride, who has the most fabulous raunchy voice, and is one of the few women who can actually get away with singing Janis Joplin tracks without sounding ridiculous.

we then retired to bed to watch Question Time, featuring the mad Anne Widdecombe, who wouldn't shut up at all, Roy Hattersley reminding us all what Labour used to be, a raddled Shirley Conran, Lembit Opik as the LibDem, and an irritating twat called Toby Young. As Lord H said, before TY appears on the programme again, it might be a good idea if he read some newspapers.

I had to buy the remaining books from Amazon at Christmas. I simply devour them - wonderful.

I did the same - bought the first one on a friend's recommendation, and then had to buy the rest. But I've been re-reading all the Discworld Guards books, so have only just embarked on the Botswanan Rhapsody.

I'm not at all sure I'm happy about it being filmed for television, mind you.

I saw Faking It too and like you was amazed at why the silly cow was doing it. I caught a whiff of pretension ("I'm classically trained" - meaning merely that she could read music and sing in a choir - so what? Doesn't make her Anne-Sofie von Otter) and condescension - "Rock music is crude therefore it must be easy for someone of my superior intellect to master without my even trying". Thank the gods she got her comeuppance, bawling out her dreadful mistaken idea of what a rock song is a minor third flat (not 100% her fault, I didn't see her getting any foldback at any gig). I think she needs help.
