from the Sunday Herald

"WHAT do you give someone who’s been proved innocent after spending the best part of their life behind bars, wrongfully convicted of a crime they didn’t commit?

"An apology, maybe? Counselling? Champagne? Compensation? Well, if you’re David Blunkett, the Labour Home Secretary, the choice is simple: you give them a big, fat bill for the cost of board and lodgings for the time they spent freeloading at Her Majesty’s Pleasure in British prisons."

Makes perfect sense to me, provided the victim of miscarriage of justice can countersue for 25 years' worth of lost earnings. To be paid out of the funds that David Blunkett will personally earn by licking the boots of abattoir workers at minimum wage for this specific fund raising purpose.

That is repugnant

And how horrible that victims of miscarriage of justice get no counselling or training prior to release!

Extraordinary.

What I do wonder, though, is why we haven't heard about this before. It's obvious from this story that this is just a final step in a legal battle.

I wonder if the amount of compensation for wrongful imprisonment takes this into account? From the story it looks as if it doesn't.

F**king outrageous. Deeply wrong. Morally indefensible.

This is unbelievable! I'm also with the suggestion for countersuing for loss of earnings. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that they were not willingly taking this food, using these blankets etc, but were in fact being held against their will.
