America is a very strange place. This link from [livejournal.com profile] timpollard tells how the State of Georgia has banned female genital piercings (but not male).

Amendment sponsor Rep. Bill Heath, R-Bremen, was slack-jawed when told after the vote that some adults seek the piercings.

"What? I've never seen such a thing," Heath said. "I, uh, I wouldn't approve of anyone doing it. I don't think that's an appropriate thing to be doing."

That makes him sounds a little dim, certainly. In fact, the entire bill makes him sound dim.

Some of the bill makes sense - outlawing it for children, especially the loathsome practice of female circumcision sounds ok to me. For adults though I really dont see why they should be able to restrict choice.

The usual approach with these kind of laws created by dim-witted representatives is that groups will challenge the law on First Amendment grounds (freedom of expression) and somewhere down the legal line, it'll get quietly tossed out.
