first off, Today on the Home Service tells us that Brian Eno has remixed the theme to The Archers with a "drum and bass beat" (when did Brian Eno start doing drum and bass?). The story is here.

now The Guardian informs me that Peter Mendelson is the front runner to chair the BBC. The story is here [warning: requires registration].

"Mr Mandelson had "no immediate intention" of interfering with the editorial policies of the Today programme, but did question whether it should be broadcast at a time when listeners "might more profitably be engaged in some form of exercise". Possibilities include moving it to a much earlier time slot.

A keen dog lover, he is eager for the corporation to feature live coverage of the annual Crufts show.

In his interview, he is understood to have suggested that the BBC should re-establish its commitment to subjects at the core of its public service remit, such as the property market. He suggested a three-part retrospective of the noted furniture designer Charles Eames."

now then, folks ... remember to check your calendars.

I was listening to the Archers item this morning and howling with laughter as each twist and turn was announced.

Thought the signing of 'Love me Tender' to the theme was quite fun too, although the 'Brian Eno' version somehow reminded me of The revamped Bleue Peter theme some (many?) years ago by Mike Oldfield

Though the thing is, I really liked the revamped theme a *lot* better than the old standrad, which I've always loathed. (Fortunately, I've never gotten interested in the show, so I don't have to listen to it.)
