went to see The Prisoner of Askaban last night - we turned up for the 9 p.m showing, and there were less than 20 people in the ... what do you call it in a multi-screen? Screening room?

anyway, it meant that we could sit in the comfy sofa-esque seats without paying the extra, and taking into account the Orange 241 deal, the tickets cost us £5.60 for £21 worth.

what's that you say? Did we like the film? Hell, yes. I think the change of director was a good decision - the movies is somehow darker and more complex (and yes, I know the books went that way as they went on, but even so); I think that Michael Gambon actually makes a *better* Dumbledore than Richard Harris (stone the heretic). I haven't reread the book since it first came out, so I don't remember what they left out, but it all worked for me, and the special effects and scenery were fabulous, for the most part.

please can I have a hippogriff?

Who's the new director? Anyone would be better than Chris Columbus, who has made far too many wholesome sentimental mom's-apple-pie "comedies" than a director should be allowed to.
The one man on earth who should be given a crack at the Harry Potter films is Terry Gilliam. He was born for these.

I loved it too and had reread the book quite recently. Most of those I've found who didn't like it were basically looking for another Chris Columbus faithful recreation of the book with nothing new put in and anything left out only being left out because of time constraints. The only thing I wish had been different was the ending - it would have been good to see the train bit with Ron being given Pigwidgeon and Harry telling his uncle about his murderer-on-the-run godfather. Generally, though, loved the much darker edgier feel - it's what the films need now and it's how the books go too. Also loved the new scenery and couldn't care less that it means they moved Hagrid's hut - in a magical world, why not?

whatever they left out was exactly right because they made a film rather than a series of set pieces this time - there was nothing I missed from the book (although I haven't reread either)...
