I'm not looking forward to the next few days ... perlmonger says he's going to try to give up coffee.

him giving up smoking was bad enough, but I think this is going to be worse.

Me, too. I'm not really sure why I do this except ... Well, I have given up alcohol a number of times, but it's easy, and my birthday falls during Lent so it can be a drag. Giving up things like chocolate is also no big deal because I eat it so rarely.

However, this year I am also planning to take something up during Lent, to balance the negative with the positive. Haven't decided what as yet, but maybe something of a craft-like nature.

I gave up chocolate three times for Lent, three years in succession. The first time was very difficult. The second time was easier. The third time was so easy it hardly seemed worth doing... and the net effect has been I've eaten a lot less chocolate.
